Foster homes must provide a safe, secure, and stable environment for all animals in care. This includes maintaining a clean living space, ensuring proper containment or housing, and preventing exposure to unsafe conditions.
Foster animals must be supervised appropriately based on their species, age, and behaviour. Any existing pets in the home should be safe, vaccinated, and properly introduced if interaction is required.
Fosters must follow all care instructions provided, including feeding schedules, medication guidelines, handling notes, and behavioural recommendations. Any concerns must be reported promptly.
Foster animals must not be rehomed, sold, or transferred without approval from the sanctuary.
Previous experience with animals is helpful but not always required. What matters most is responsibility, willingness to learn, and the ability to follow care instructions closely.
Certain animals, especially those with medical or behavioural needs, may require more experienced foster homes. In these cases, additional guidance or approval may be required before placement.
We provide support and information to help foster caregivers feel confident and prepared throughout the process.
Fostering is a temporary commitment that can vary depending on the animal’s needs. Some placements may last a few days, while others may last several weeks or months.
Foster caregivers should be available daily for basic care, monitoring, and routine support. Consistency is extremely important for the animal’s wellbeing and adjustment.
Before accepting a foster placement, it is important to ensure you have the time and stability to provide ongoing care until the animal is ready for adoption or transition.
