Second Chance Sanctuary accepts foster applications for a wide variety of animals, including:
Dogs
Cats
Small animals
Reptiles
Farm animals
Equine animals
Placement availability depends on the foster home’s experience, setup, available space, and ability to safely accommodate the specific animal.
Second Chance Sanctuary provides foster supplies directly through the organization. This may include food, bowls, leashes, harnesses, treats, toys, bedding, crates, litter, and other approved care items depending on the animal’s needs.
Fosters should not be expected to independently purchase standard care supplies unless discussed and approved beforehand.
Previous fostering experience is helpful but not required for many placements. We work with foster homes to provide guidance, information, and support throughout the process.
Some animals with medical or behavioural needs may require more experienced foster homes.
The length of a foster placement can vary depending on the animal, medical needs, behaviour, and adoption timeline. Some animals may stay for a short period, while others may require longer-term placement.
We aim to keep foster homes informed throughout the process.
Yes. We consider preferences, experience level, household setup, comfort level, and available space when matching foster homes with animals.
Not every placement will be suitable for every foster home.
The safety and wellbeing of all animals is a priority. Proper introductions and management are important, and some foster animals may require separation from resident pets.
If serious concerns arise, the sanctuary should be contacted immediately to discuss next steps.
Our team provides ongoing communication and support throughout the foster placement. Foster homes may receive:
Supply assistance
Care guidance
Behavioural support
Placement updates
Medical coordination when applicable
We want foster homes to feel supported and prepared throughout the process.
In some situations, foster homes may apply to adopt the animal in their care. Standard adoption procedures and approval requirements still apply.
We understand that unexpected situations can occur. Foster homes should contact the sanctuary as soon as possible if they are unable to continue the placement so appropriate arrangements can be made.
Not always. Some animals may still be learning routines, socialization, leash skills, litter habits, or basic manners. Foster homes should be prepared for adjustment periods and continued guidance.
Once the animal is approved for adoption and matched with a permanent home, the foster placement will come to an end. Foster homes play an important role in helping animals become ready for successful long-term placement.
