The Rescued Animals Archive is a record of animals that have entered the care of Second Chance Sanctuary through rescue, surrender, rehabilitation, fostering, or rehoming programs.
Each animal has a unique story, background, and journey. Some arrived in emergency situations, while others required medical care, rehabilitation, behavioural support, or temporary placement before finding safety and stability.
This archive exists to recognize the lives that have been impacted through rescue efforts and to document the animals who have been part of our sanctuary and foster programs.
All animals listed below have been cared for, supported, or assisted through Second Chance Sanctuary in some capacity.
Teddy
Dog/Australian Shepherd Border Collie Mix
Teddy was a playful, chaotic, and super lovable gentle giant. With his mix of Australian Shepherd and Border Collie, he had endless energy and a big personality to match. You always knew when Teddy was around because of his heavy breathing, constant panting, and very enthusiastic drooling. Despite his chaos, Teddy was incredibly fun and affectionate. He brought a lot of laughter into the space and had a goofy, sweet way of connecting with people that made him impossible to forget. Teddy came to us through a short-term surrender, with plans to go into a foster home after just one night. However, after some reflection, his original owners made the decision to take him back so they could continue working on him and supporting his needs themselves.
Cookie
Guinea Pig/American Guinea Pig
Cookie was the white and tan half of an inseparable sister duo alongside Butter. The two girls shared a very special bond and spent nearly every moment together during their time with us. Wherever Butter went, Cookie was never far behind. When Cookie first arrived, she was very shy and nervous in her new environment. She often relied on Butter for comfort and reassurance while adjusting to her surroundings. Over time, with patience, gentle care, and lots of quiet attention, Cookie slowly began coming out of her shell and showing her soft, sweet personality. As she grew more comfortable, Cookie became more curious and relaxed around the people she trusted most. Watching her confidence grow alongside her sister was incredibly rewarding and heartwarming for everyone caring for them. After about two months with us, Cookie and Butter were adopted together into a loving forever home where they could continue life side by side. We are beyond happy that these sweet sisters found their perfect ending together.
Butter
Guinea Pig/American Guinea Pig
Butter was the fully tan half of a sweet sister duo alongside Cookie. During their time with us, the two girls were completely inseparable, always staying close together and finding comfort in one another. Butter was especially gentle and calm, often following Cookie everywhere she went. When they first arrived, Butter was very shy and unsure of her surroundings. She preferred quiet spaces and took time learning to trust the people caring for her. With patience, consistency, and lots of gentle attention, her personality slowly began to shine through. As she became more comfortable, Butter showed her sweet and curious side, especially around the people she recognized most. After spending about two months in our care, Butter and Cookie were adopted together into a loving forever home. We are so happy they were able to stay side by side and begin their next chapter together, just as they always deserved.
Pumpkin
Cat/Unknown Breed
Pumpkin is a 6-year-old male cat who spent a short but very memorable time with us, just one cozy night before heading off to his new home. Even in that little bit of time, his gentle and affectionate personality completely shined through. From the moment he arrived, Pumpkin proved himself to be incredibly sweet and unbelievably cuddly. He loved being close to people, happily settling in for pets and quiet companionship as if he had known us forever. One of his most charming little quirks is his loud breathing, which honestly just made him even more endearing, a constant reminder that he was always nearby, relaxed and content. Though his stay with us was brief, Pumpkin left a big impression on our hearts. He was recently adopted into a loving home where he can enjoy all the snuggles and comfort he deserves. We’re so happy he found his perfect match and can’t wait for him to live a life full of warmth, naps, and endless cuddles.
Bert
Rabbit/Unknown Breed
Bert was one half of our chaotic bunny brother duo and definitely the bold one. Recognizable as the bunny sitting up in photos, Bert was full of energy and always seemed to be planning his next great escape. No enclosure could stop him for long, and many mornings started with us finding him happily hopping around the sanctuary at 6:00 a.m. like he owned the place. Although tiny, Bert had a big personality and was known for being a little bit feisty. If he decided to bite, he meant it. Over time, though, his playful and energetic personality became impossible not to love. After his time with us, Bert was transferred to another shelter alongside his brother Ernie before eventually finding a loving forever home.
Ernie
Rabbit/Unknown Breed
Ernie was the quieter half of the bunny brothers and could usually be spotted kneeling down in photos, happily eating grass while his brother caused trouble nearby. Like Bert, Ernie was a black bunny with grey hairs and spent about two months with us. While he was much more shy than his brother, Ernie still loved running and hopping around the sanctuary. The two brothers were expert escape artists, and we often found them exploring outside their enclosure early in the morning together. Although timid at first, Ernie slowly became more comfortable in his surroundings and showed off his sweet personality over time. After leaving our care, Ernie and Bert were transferred to another shelter before eventually finding a loving home together.
